Dear Parents,
We are starting our first spelling unit this week. Attached to this note is your child’s spelling list for this week. Please help your child learn to spell these words. On the back of this paper are some ideas to help your child study their spelling words.
The main list each week will follow a certain pattern, like this week’s list is short A words. Please add other words to the list as you are helping your child study them so they become better at listening for beginning and ending sounds. On Friday when we have the test, I will be giving them those 6 words, plus I will add 2 other short A words for a total of 8 words. The words with the star next to them are the challenge words, which also happen to be the vocabulary words from our reading story this week. These words will be extra credit words. Please focus on learning the short A words first and if that is going well, then encourage your child to learn the extra credit words.
The spelling test will be on Friday. They will bring their spelling test home on Friday so you too can praise them for their hard work! Thanks for your help.
